I have been keeping it a secret more or less and it’s been killing me not to share! Obviously, I wanted to tell you guys right away, but there were a lot of applications, confirmations, and paperwork in general that had to happen before I felt comfortable announcing the news, but yes… I am moving! Whoah, what?! Yup, you heard me right. I am leaving Munich, and Germany in general. Oh, and I am going to start my BA studies in communication design! Well, let me share a bit more as to why…

I have lived in Bavaria my whole life (well, twenty years). Beeing so fortunate traveling the whole world with my family whilst I was growing up. I always adapted to new places very fast. Everywhere I’ve traveled, I always asked myself “How would it be to live here, how does the daily life of the people living here look like”?

I LOVE Munich. It’s been my home since two and a half years. It’s an amazing city, with so much to offer, filled with amazing people, cool places, lots of opportunities and surrounded by at least a dozen places to visit just a short drive away. It wasn’t even a question once I finished my apprenticeship to leave the countryside and move to Munich. Luckily, I already had an offer for a place to stay even before I really decided to move to the city. And I still couldn’t believe how easy it was to move and that I was actually living in Munich. It was what I’d always talked about while I was still living with my parents and it was finally real. Fast forward one year and I just graduated from school and got my University Entrance Qualification. And even before I got my qualification I knew that I don’t want to study. I wasn’t willing to sit in a room with 200 other people the next 1095 days of my life and look into books. I’ve never been the theoretical kind of person. I’ve always had a hard time sitting at my desk for several hours and just look into books silently. I’ve always been a more creative kind of person who loves to work and see proper results out of it.

So last summer I decided that I am not going to apply for any universities but to keep on working on my blog and on several design projects as a freelancer. So over this past year, I’ve been questioning where I really want to be and what I want to do with my life. While Munich has been my home for some time, it still always felt temporary. Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed living here but slowly Munich started to bore me.

It’s not a big secret that Cape Town has always been my number one favorite city / place on earth. Every person around me knows that pretty well. I think I might already annoyed some people with my overly enthusiastic speeches about Cape Town and why it’s just the best city in the world. I was a little 11-year-old girl when I visited Cape Town for the very first time and it was love at first sight. Since then this love affair is still going strong. And during my first time in the Mother City I made myself a promise: that I am so going to move to Cape Town in my early 20ies. Guess what? IT’S HAPPENING.

Fast forward to last Tuesday: I was at home working on a few emails when suddenly my dad called me and asked if I haven’t checked my emails yet. I instantly closed all my open files and had a closer look into my mail account. There it was! A mail from the university I applied to saying:” We hereby confirm that Magdalena has been accepted to enroll for the BA Degree in Communication Design.” Goosebumps all over! I couldn’t believe what I was reading. All these sleepless nights, endless phone calls and all my nerves which suffered the past few weeks… I got accepted by my dream university in my dream city! And yes it still kind of feels like a dream and I have to pinch myself. It’s a new adventure and, although it’s a bit stressful thinking of all the final paperwork I have to deal with for my student visa, I am absolutely giddy with excitement.

I am flying to Cape Town on Thursday to finally have a look at my apartment which I am going to share with Janine and Julia and buy the rest of my furniture and organize a few last things for my move at the beginning of January. I am so excited to share this adventure with you guys! Make sure to follow along on Snapchat (@magdalenafuez) next week as I might already give you a little apartment tour.
